The Walmart Women’s Economic Empowerment Project Partnership is now being implemented in China for the second year. A total of 131 university teams applied and 60 were selected to participate.
One of these teams, the Enactus team of Tianjin University of Commerce, started the project named “Skillful Hands Weave Happiness” in January 2012. By running a “Designing-Producing-Marketing” business model and improving the economic and cultural values of productions, the team is empowering these women to improve their quality of life and standard of living.
In May 2012, the team helped the local administrative department at the women’s federation establish the “Jixianli Manual Workshop.” By December 2012, the workshop carried out six skills training seminars for more than 30 women. The women have already secured product orders, resulting in an increase of income. Walmart and Enactus China are proud to see teams continuing to bring value to the lives of others through this Project Partnership.
